Today is the opening of A+: 100 years of graphic communication by women at Central Saint Martins. It's time to celebrate women in graphic design. Join me in recognising and supporting every woman graphic designer across the globe by filling the Twittersphere with images of their amazing work.
Calling all graphic designers!
What: An opportunity for everyone to celebrate the work of women graphic designers online and offline.
When: on Twitter: starting today 16 February
How: Tweet names with images of work by inspiring women graphic designers with hashtag #CelebrateWomen or Tweet directly to @StudioAishima with the hashtag
As a female graphic designer, I have attended many talks and conferences with very few women’s work or voices being showcased; the situation is the same in design history, and the design press. There are so many great women graphic designers working today, and so many in our history, so where are they?
In the UK, women outnumber men by up to 70% to 30% on graphic design courses. In the graphic design industry, women make up 44%. But this level of female presence in graphic design is not reflected anywhere in the graphic design arena. This is an opportunity for female graphic designers and their supporters to show that women designers are out there creating great work.
To generate further recognition for the designers, the names tweeted on this day and every day until the close of the exhibition on 23 March 2016, will be included in an exhibition poster that I am designing to be displayed at Central Saint Martins. It will be a dynamic representation which is edited weekly and will document the names of women graphic designers across the globe by the close of the exhibition.
Let’s celebrate these amazing designers and showcase their work to the world!
